1. Introductory remarks Eyolf Østrem. There are three general remarks to be made about this album. One is the consistent use of the capo. Several of the songs (John Wesley Harding, All Along the Watchtower, The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest, As I went out one morning, I pity the poor immigrant), are played with the capo around the 5th fret, which produces the high, ringing guitar sound.

2. Aug 15,  · OK, now, turn the volume down a bit and play cut 1, JOHN WESLEY HARDING. The first thing you notice (besides the out of tune gee-tar) is that Bob's voice sounds a bit harsher than track 8. Different session EQ. Play about 20 seconds of track 1 and skip to track 2, AS I WENT OUT ONE MORNING. Hear how Bob's voice sounds much better? More hi-fi.

3. For the title track, Dylan used the name of an American Old West outlaw and folk icon John Wesley Hardin. The addition of “g” was by mistake. It’s an interesting way of opening the album. As I Went Out One Morning is a lovely track but way too short for us. I Dreamed I .

4. The album marked Dylan's return to acoustic music and traditional roots, after three albums of electric rock music. John Wesley Harding shares many stylistic threads with, and was recorded around the same time as, the prolific series of home recording sessions with The Band, partly released in as The Basement Tapes.
